Welcome to the results of nectatz, Today we are discussing the qualifications for joining government health colleges (diploma and certificate colleges in health and allied sciences) for the academic year 2026/2027. These colleges (e.g. Muhimbili, KCMC, Bugando, and others managed by the Ministry of Health or NACTVET) offer courses such as Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Environmental Health, and more.

 Important: As of February 2026, there are no major changes in the official qualifications from previous years. The criteria are based on the NACTVET Admission Guidebook 2025/2026 (which is still in effect or being slightly updated for 2026/2027), and government colleges follow those guidelines. The basic qualifications are the same for government and private colleges at diploma/certificate level, but government colleges have priority for HESLB loans and cheaper fees.

Basic Qualifications for Joining Government Health Colleges (Diploma and Certificate)

According to NACTVET (official website: nactvet.go.tz), the common qualifications for Health and Allied Sciences (HAS) programs are:

Ngazi ya Certificate (Basic Technician Certificate – NTA Level 4): 

  • Form Four Certificate of Education (CSEE) with at least four Ds (4 passes) in non-religious subjects. Must include Chemistry and Biology (or equivalent course subjects).
  •  Advantages: Pass in Basic Mathematics and English. Or NVA Level III in a related field.
Ordinary Diploma Level (NTA Level 5-6, 3 years): 

  • CSEE with at least four Ds (4 passes) in non-religious subjects, including Chemistry, Biology, and Physics/Engineering Sciences . 
  • Or pass in Basic Mathematics and English (added advantage for many courses). 
  • Or NVA Level III or Technician Certificate (NTA Level 4) in a related field + CSEE. 
  • For specific courses (e.g. Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences): At least D in Chemistry and Biology . 
  • Physics or Mathematics is required for some (e.g. Medical Laboratory: Chemistry, Biology, Physics/Basic Math).
Example of qualifications for a popular course (from the 2025/2026 Guidebook):

  • Ordinary Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery: CSEE na ≥4 passes ikiwa ni pamoja na Chemistry, Biology, Physics/Engineering Sciences + pass in Basic Math na English (added advantage). 
  • Ordinary Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences: CSEE with ≥4 passes including Chemistry and Biology. 
  • Ordinary Diploma in Clinical Medicine: CSEE with ≥4 passes including Chemistry, Biology, and Physics/Engineering Sciences. 
  • Ordinary Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences: CSEE with ≥4 passes including Chemistry, Biology, Physics/Engineering Sciences/Basic Math and English.
Equivalent Entry (for those with a diploma or certificate):

  • Technician Certificate (NTA Level 4) in a related field + CSEE.
  •  Or ACSEE (Form Six) with at least one Principal pass and one Subsidiary in science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)

Well-known Government Health Colleges (Example)

  • Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) – diploma and degree. 
  • KCM College of Health Sciences. Bugando School of Nursing. 
  • Other colleges under NACTVET: Dodoma, Mbeya, and others that offer government diplomas. 
  • Government fees: TZS 1,000,000–1,600,000 per year (cheaper than private).

How to Apply and Check Admission 2026/2027

  • Visit the official NACTVET website : https://www.nactvet.go.tz/ or https://tvetims.nacte.go.tz/ (Central Admission System – CAS). 
  • Register and apply online (applications open around May/June or March intake). 
  • Download the Admission Guidebook 2025/2026 (or the 2026/2027 update) from nactvet.go.tz for complete qualifications and colleges.
  •  Confirm your place after selection (names announced in August/September).
  •  Pay the admission fee and report to the university with documents (CSEE certificate, photo, health letter).
Important Things:

  • High competition (e.g. 2025: over 39,000 were selected from many applicants).
  •  Health courses have priority for HESLB loans. 
  • Verify specific course qualifications in the official Guidebook or college (may change slightly for 2026/2027). 
  • If you haven't gotten a government degree, consider private colleges or upgrade later.
