Qualifications for Joining a Certificate Level Teacher Training College
Qualifications for Joining a Certificate Level Teacher Training College in Tanzania 2026/2027
In recent years (2025/2026), a Certificate in Teacher Education has been available at many public and private teacher training colleges in Tanzania. This is an entry-level qualification (usually NTA Level 4 or Certificate in Teacher Education), which prepares teachers for pre-primary, primary, or specialized areas such as vocational teaching.
Important to know:
Many of the Certificate in Teaching programs have now been replaced or merged with Diplomas under the new education policy. Most teachers start with a Diploma in Teaching (2 or 3 years).
A fresh certificate (1 or 2 years) is mostly available in vocational training areas (e.g. MVTTC Morogoro) or other specialized colleges.
Qualifications may vary slightly depending on the college (government or private), but they follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology , NACTVET , and TCU .
